What's the name of the movie?
The movie was filmed in Italy (i think it was filmed from 1990 to 2008) it's about a girl who gets to stay with some of her friends but the mother locks her and aboused. She even wrote with a knife on her stomach! (something about the gir being a b*tch.) And at the end, the oldest sister drives her all the way to the circus in which their parents work, and sadly died.
It's based on a crime.
Your description reminds me a lot of "An American Crime" (2007) -- based on a true event; the girl's parents worked in a traveling carnival.

The plot of the movie is based on real events in 1965, taking place in Indianapolis. The torture and eventual murder of Sylvia Likens is known as being one of the most infamous crimes in local history. Ellen Page plays Sylvia (the oldest of two sisters), and Catherine Keener plays Gertrude Baniszewski, the woman responsible for her death.
Baniszewski took Sylvia and her sister into her home that year, receiving twenty dollars per week from their parents in exchange for their care. The level of care for the seven children already there was low and the tension was high, as the oldest girl had been found pregnant. Baniszewski began to take her rage out on the Likens girls, and then on Sylvia in particular. The extent of the abuse and the sheer number of people involved is overwhelming: in the end, five people went to prison for this crime, including three children under the age of sixteen. Five more were originally brought to court, but charges were dropped.
EDIT: There was a 'dream sequence' toward the end that showed Sylvia actually escaping and reaching her parents and one of her torturers was helping her to escape. This scene was added for more dramatic purposes and it was effective when it turned out to be an out-of-body experience for Sylvia.
