Value of Antique Japanese Emporer Chairs?
I have two chairs, which I am fairly certain are Japanese (not Chinese) emporer's chairs. On each side there is a dragon carved below the arm rests; the cushion area for the back of the head is square-shaped (about 12" by 20"). I have a matching marble inset table. I'm trying to locate circa - I have not yet seen anything like these on the net or in books. Any ideas?
They could be Chinoiserie as well, which was actually British, and huge for making reproduced types of furniture. it may not be asian at all, there was a huge influence in Europe of the asian arts.
